A week that started off at the London Legal Walk 2013 and earlier on that very same day a lovely two hours staring at Turner Seascapes at the Tate Britain took a sour turn as news came through of the tragic events at Woolwich. The human capacity for enraged fits of banal stupidity baffles me at times. My thoughts are with the families of all concerned.
One of the highlights of this week have been the lovely interaction with Barrister Camilla Choudhury Khawaja, known more commonly as the 'The Woman's Lawyer'. Her main passion is women's rights issues when not chauffeuring her two sons around. Our conversation with her forms this week's
I have been pleasantly surprised by the enormous interest and readership of our Saturday conversations. Next week's conversation would feature Barrister ASM Alam, a commercial lawyer from Bangladesh sharing his thoughts on the recent garment factory collapse and safety laws in that jurisdiction. I am presently a third of the way through reading 'Wishing on Venus', a novel by Mark Holmes who is a CPS lawyer by day. Mark has promised to talk to us as soon as I finish his novel!
The other exciting exchange of the week had been with the distinguished Indian lawyer Advocate Santhanakrishnan, who is one of the organisers of the Cricket World Cup for lawyers. I am so looking forward to speaking to him during his visit to London in early June and perhaps more importantly, picking up some tips on my shaky forward defensive stance!
